Text Box: Time sure does fly, when you’re having fun……….....………… By Andrew Hill
(October, 2008)

Everyone present at Lynn’s September contest enjoyed another event with great dancing and fellowship. The temperature outside and in the club was much more comfortable. Bill Cole and Tom Bare once again showed their support for Shag dancing and our CSA organization. They, along with our other contest venues this year, have proven to be advocates of our dance, our members, and all Shag dancers.

The CSA benefit golf tournament in September was very successful. This was accomplished by the efforts of Jim James with the assistance of John Leggett. The participation of the golfers and the volunteers that helped manage the event is very much appreciated. A huge thanks to all of our sponsors for their generous contributions. Ten teams competed in weather that was enjoyable and the golf course proved to be challenging and was in great condition. We will be announcing donations made from the tournament proceeds at our year-end banquet.

As indicated in a recent membership email, a letter was mailed to SPA listed club owners and mangers that held CSA contests last year. We once again made an effort to reach out and offered to work with any interested SPA club owner in 2009.

Our organization continues to be a beacon, promoting the Shag dance and providing a mechanism for dancers to improve and display their dancing skills. We offer recognition for accomplishing and reaching higher levels of dance abilities. At the same time we are encouraging others to learn and improve their own skill levels and to participate in enjoying and carrying on the tradition of Shag dancing.

We are in the final stages of planning our year-end banquet. Your banquet committee members are working to provide the best possible event within the constructs of our budget. In addition, we are in the process of building our contest schedule for 2009.

We are looking forward to the final two competitions of 2008 and the year-end awards banquet. Our 2009 schedule will allow everyone the opportunity to continue toward reaching for their goals. We will continue the CSA tradition of promoting our dance and enjoying the camaraderie and respect that is a unique part of being a member of the Competitive Shaggers Association.
